A Hand up for Kader

Kader wants to proved a home for his parents and his new bride.

His parents, Batoma and Ablo, have 4 younger children living in their home.  They are in their mid-fifties and have never owned a home.  Ablo works as a guardian, and makes a small salary.  Batoma sells merchandise to help bring in some income. Together, they earn barely enough to feed their family.  

Kader, Batoma’s oldest son, is in the Malian military and wants to build a home for his Mother and her family.  He is engaged to a woman who already has children.  A soldier earns a salary.  But it will take a very long time.  And like all renters, they realize that all the money they spend for rent doesn’t get them any closer to owning a home or being ready for retirement. 

Kader contacted us asking for help in purchasing property and helping to build a small home, consisting of 2 rooms and an outhouse.  One room is for Ablo, Batoma and the 4 children.  The other will be for Kader and his new bride and her children.  The rooms will be of concrete block.

Suitable property was found in a new area that is just being built up.  It is unimproved property, with several neighbors also in the start-up stage.  The first step was to purchase the property.  We sent money for a portion of the purchase price.  Kader got a loan for the rest.  The property is now legally in his name.

Of course, owning the property doesn’t help with the rent situation yet.  You need to be able to move onto the property and out of a rental.

The next step was clearing the brush from the property.  Ablo cleared the property with his machete.

The next step was gathering supplies.  Kader is managing the project remotely as he is deployed a long way from home.  Kader ordered sand, gravel and large rocks for the foundation.  He also ordered rebar and cement.

Then the block making began.  They have a good collection of cement blocks started now.

What a joy to help their dream of having their own property come to fruition.
